The Great American Backyard Campout:Sky Meadows State Park
Come camp in the Historic Mount Bleak backyard. Celebrate nature and the
great outdoors for 24 hours. Activities will begin at Noon and run throughout
the day & into the evening.
Including help setting up your campsite & tent, meet & learn
about local wildlife from
Blue Ridge Wildlife Center, Raptor Conservancy of Virginia, and Marty Martin's
Rattlesnakes, find out about hiking, backpacking, and
orienteering at the Outdoor Skills
Station sponsored by Blue Ridge Mountain Sports. At 6PM campers will enjoy a
delicious dinner provided by the Bloom in Marshall. Finish the day with Smokey the
Bear & storytelling by the group campfire. Also take a guided Candle Light Tour of the historic Mount Bleak House and view the night sky from telescopes provided by
Northern Virginia Astronomy Club.
Hurry! Make your reservation for camping in the Mount Bleak backyard with George or Bill! BGOP is on the schedule for doing demos (see link below) and we can use all the help we can get! George has done this event the past few years and we are trying to make this an annual BGOP event.

The Mill is going to be officially opened October 15 after more than 8 years of renovation. The National Park Service has coordinated a number of historic restoration trades to demonstrate their craft on the grounds of the Mill located in Rock Creek Park. BGOP will be provided a tent as will other trades. BGOP is committed to have forge and smiths. Dave Murphy is point of contact for BGOP.
